Helping Our Community Recover From the CZU Lightning Complex Fire

Many hundreds of homes were burned in the recent CZU Lightning Complex Fire in the San Lorenzo Valley. And even for those families whose homes didn't burn, many people are either without water at all, or without safe water due to nearly 10 miles of pipe being destroyed. At Mt. Cross, we would like to help. One way we can do that is to make some of our shower facilities available.

If we are to do this, though, it will take a lot of volunteers, as most of our staff has been furloughed as a result of COVID-19. While the details have not been worked out yet, what we're envisioning is opening the Pool House and Oak restrooms from 4-9 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. People would sign up for a 20-minute slot to shower, and then volunteers would have about 10 minutes to clean each bathroom in between guests. The times would be staggered so that multiple bathrooms wouldn't need to be cleaned in the same 10-minute period. We would provide you with all the necessary PPE and cleaning supplies. In an ideal situation, we would have 2-5, volunteers each evening so that there is always someone available to greet guests and show first-time users where the restrooms are. Volunteers are welcome to do your own "Family Get-Away" and stay at the camp and have all morning through mid-afternoon to relax, hike, and enjoy the beauty of God's creation here, and then spend the evening(s) volunteering your time. Of course, there's no requirement to stay at the camp, and you can sign up for a one-off shift, a weekly shift, a monthly shift, etc. We don't know exactly how long this service will be needed, but we'd love to help as long as possible. To indicate your interest/availability in helping with this endeavor, please fill out this form, and Adam Erickson, Mt. Cross' Co-Director, will be in touch. If you aren't able to volunteer time, but are able to contribute financially to help offset the increase in the water bill we will have, or to un-furlough some of our staff so they can assist the guests, we welcome those gifts. As we make plans for Summer 2021, we need your input. It seems as though the likelihood of a COVID-19 vaccine being widely available before it is time for summer camp is slim*, and that would mean man
