Fall Work Days

Saturdays, October 24 & November 14, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Looking for a great opportunity to do service as a family? Mt. Cross is hosting work days 1 Saturday each month this fall for volunteers willing to come help create at least 30 feet of defensible space around all our buildings. This will involve clearing brush and undergrowth, raking, as well as cutting back tree branches so they are not touching the buildings. If anyone has a weed eater with a brush blade they could bring, as well as a chainsaw (especially a chainsaw on a pole), and/or loppers, as well as rakes, that would be very helpful, as the camp has a limited number of supplies. Participants are also asked to bring a water bottle, gloves, and any personal protective equipment (eye/ear protection) they will want. We also ask that everyone wears a face covering in accordance with the Santa Cruz County and State of California’s health orders. A boxed lunch will be provided.

Lodging for this event will be limited to 2 rooms for families in Lower Jensen and 2 Madrone Cabins, as well as two sites in the campground, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who are staying at the camp will need to provide their own sleeping bag and pillow, as well as toiletries, towel/washcloth, and any other personal items you will need.

Additionally, if anyone is a Thrivent Member and can apply for Thrivent Action Teams to help offset the costs of food, gas for weed eaters and chainsaws, and other supplies, that would be wonderful. You can contact Adam Erickson (adam@mtcross.org; 831.336.5179) with questions, or help securing your Action Team.

To sign up, please fill out this Signup Genius for October 24 (the November signup for will be available soon) or simply contact Adam with your name, contact information, and how many in your group, by the Monday before the Work Day you plan to participate in. Please note that Thrivent Action Teams require at least 2 weeks to process, so if you can secure an Action Team for a Work Day, please sign up for a Work Day by that time.

As we make plans for Summer 2021, we need your input. It seems as though the likelihood of a COVID-19 vaccine being widely available before it is time for summer camp is slim*, and that would mean man
