Mt. Cross Ranger Program

Mt. Cross is an outdoor minsitry that was created to serve the Lutheran Congregations of Northern California and Nevada.
In order to preserve this ministry, we need people who provide a bridge between the minsitry of camp and the ministry of our Lutheran congrations throughout the Sierra Pacific Synod of the ELCA and the CA-NV-HI District of the Lutheran Church of the Missouri Synod.
We call these people our Mt. Cross "Rangers"

Upcoming Ranger Meetings......open to all! We invite you to get involved with Mt. Cross by coming to the next Ranger Volunteer meeting.

Being a Mt. Cross Ranger MEANS: promoting Mt. Cross events at your church, placing news about the camp in your church bulletin or newsletter, promoting the summer camp program and helping raise money for the camp.

Mt. Cross Rangers come to Mt. Cross at least twice a year, Friday overnight to Saturday, for a meeting to plan Mt. Cross events, like our Annual Memorial Day Work Weekend and Monday's BBQ and other activities. It's a good way to get to know the camp and its ministry!

The ministry at Mt. Cross is enriched and enhanced by the Ranger Program. The Rangers are a group of individuals who support the camp by being advocates and ambassadors for Mt. Cross in their local congregations, volunteering countless hours, sending their children and grandchildren each summer to experience camp, giving financially and simply loving Mt. Cross Ministries.

Top Ten Things That a Ranger Gets to Do............

  1. Be a positive voice for the camp!
  2. Come to Memorial Weekend each year for a wonderful time of service and fellowship.
  3. Have your church place a link to Mt. Cross (www.mtcross.org) on the church's website, if you have one.
  4. Join your local Thrivent Chapter Board to help bring volunteers and project funding to Mt. Cross. OR apply for funding from your chapter to complete a special project at camp.
  5. Create a Display Board with photographs that you can put up at church. (We'll provide you with the materials.)
  6. Have regular bulletin and newsletter announcements, listing what's going on and what's available at Mt. Cross. (Again, we'll supply you with the materials.)
  7. Assist in getting more Rangers from Lutheran churches in your local area.
  8. Do a temple talks about Mt. Cross or your other camp experiences at your church or other venue, when given the opportunity.
  9. Arrange for a Mt. Cross staff member to come to you church and preach, share stories, music or whatever else you can think of you can ask them to do.
  10. Keep the Camp in your and your family's prayers.

OTHER RANGER "RESPONSIBILITIES"
The Rangers are also responsible for coordinating and implementing the Annual Memorial Day Work Weekend. This event attracts 150+ volunteers annually to prepare Mt. Cross, by cleaning, making repairs and improvments on the buildings and grounds in an effort to ready the camp for the upcoming summer. This event is open to families, youth groups and individulas and is organized in conjunction between the Mt. Cross Staff and the Mt. Cross Rangers. Without the Rangers willingness to volunteer, pouring their hearts into this event, it would not be possible.
